Intravenous Access Service
Anaesthetists place more intravenous cannulas (also known as drips) than any other specialist and are therefore often called upon to assist when others have had difficulty. We may also employ advanced techniques such as ultrasound guidance. We also provide long-term intravenous access via peripheral inserted central catheters (PICCs) and central lines when it is expected that a patient will need long-term intravenous medication or nutrition.
